Unit 1: Foundations of Canadian Law
In class:
- we have been reading and discussing the origins of law, the way in it has developed in various cultures, and its necessity.
- we have completed chapter 1 and have completed summative review. See p.31, question 1,2,4,6; p.32, question 1, p.33 "Problems".
- we have completed chapter 2 and are currently completing summative review. See p. 47, questions 1-8,
p.49 Spain case, p. 50 Mazuelos case.
Unit 1 Assessments:
- Test #1: Monday, October 16th - covering chapters 1 and 2
- Assignment #1: Tuesday, October 31 - covering chapters 1 and 2

October & November 2017
Unit 2: Criminal Law and The Trial Process
In class:
- we have been reading and discussing The Nature of Crime (ch.6, p.138), specifically, defining crime and criminal offences with reference to the Criminal Code of Canada and its history.
- students have completed and submitted responses to questions 1-7, p.143.
- we have discussed the elements of a crime, specifically, actus reus and mens rea, p.143-147.
- students have completed q. 1 and 2, p.144 on R.v. MacGillivray and questions 1-4, p.146 on "Father Jailed in Death of Son Left Unsupervised".
- we have completed reading and discussing the chapter. Students will be completing an in-class assignment using their textbooks, during the week of November 14th. Students may answer on the hard copy provided to them in class OR online in my Google classroom.
- Unit 2 Test (Chapter 6) will be held on Thursday, Nov. 30th. It will be a combination of selected responses (multiple choice) and constructive responses (short answer responses). Notes for Unit 2 are provided below, and are also located in my Google classroom.
